System Administrator / Senior Technician

Term:

Permanent full-time with a 3 month probation.

Salary:

$60K-$80K per year (commensurate with experience and education)

We are Browning IT and Barrhaven Tech, two rapidly growing sister companies located in the south end of Ottawa.

Browning IT is our full-service enterprise IT firm offering hardware, software, security, and network solutions to a wide variety of clients of all sizes. Browning IT’s clients include 24 medium and large businesses, 8 public/non-profit sector organizations, and approximately 300 small businesses.

Barrhaven Tech is our newer consumer-level IT repairs, sales and services company. Barrhaven Tech takes our enterprise-level skills and shares them with our community in a consumer/retail context.

About the position:

This is a new position created to keep up with the increasing demands of our growing client list, particularly on the enterprise side of our business. We are looking for a knowledgeable and motivated sysadmin / senior technician to provide a wide variety of IT support and service functions.

Duties include:

  • Providing support to our clients on all IT issues;
  • Diagnosing and resolving computer system issues and daily technical client service calls;
  • Repairing hardwares/softwares;
  • Preparing service and billing reports;
  • Maintaining appropriate repair systems;
  • Planning/developing Canada-wide networks;
  • Managing our technical service desk; and
  • Providing other support on an as-needed basis.

About you:

You are a results-oriented person who is able to “make it happen”.  You are versatile, using your wide range of knowledge to diagnose and resolve many different IT problems that may arise. If and when you encounter a problem you do not immediately know how to resolve, you use good judgement to find the right balance between researching solutions on your own and escalating the problem to the business owner.

Essential qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science, engineering or other relevant field;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle;
  • Either 3 or more years in a System Administration role or 5 or more years’ experience in a variety of relevant IT roles; and
  • 3 or more years’ experience providing on-site & remote service to clients.

Asset qualifications

The following are not essential but candidates are encouraged to indicate whether they meet any of the following:

  • Experience rolling out enterprise email systems;
  • Experience managing/auditing networks;
  • Experience managing/auditing client data (especially backups, integrity, organization, permissions and recovery);
  • Experience sourcing new hardware and software solutions for clients;
  • Experience as a security administrator;
  • Experience as a web administrator;
  • English/French bilingualism (conversational); or
  • Government of Canada security clearance (enhanced, secret, top secret).
